Our Philosophy
Taking on an ambitious technology project is all too often a letdown for mission-driven organizations. That’s why we started Moonwake Technologies.
A Note From Our Founder, Patrick
After nearly two decades building technology platforms inside mission-driven organizations, I started Moonwake Technologies out of a foundational belief that the organizations working to improve lives and strengthen communities deserve technology partners who truly understand the work. Over the years, alongside nonprofits, community and economic development organizations, philanthropies, and government agencies, I’ve seen firsthand what it takes for technology investments to succeed in these environments. I’ve also seen what happens when they don’t. Again and again, well-intentioned organizations invest in a bold technology solution, only to end up with something misaligned, overbuilt, or simply unused. The technology worked on paper. In the real-world context of constrained budgets, complex stakeholder landscapes, and teams stretched thin, it failed to deliver.
Mission-driven organizations are genuinely complex. Success requires building consensus across departments, earning trust from stakeholders, training non-technical teams, and working within the realities of complicated funding environments. Technology only delivers when the people, culture, and context around it are set up to support it. That is the insight Moonwake was built on.
Before launching Moonwake, my partners and I raised over $50 million and built a team of mission-driven technologists who developed a suite of software applications that helped drive more than $2 billion in investment into small businesses and community infrastructure across the country. Those tools are used by hundreds of organizations today. They succeeded not because the technology was flashy, but because they were built with a deep understanding of user needs, close alignment with mission, and a commitment to shared ownership from day one.
Today, Moonwake partners with clients who want more than a vendor. They want a thought partner who understands both the technology and the mission, who can sit with executive teams, collaborate with frontline staff, and advocate alongside them for using technology as a force for good. If that sounds like what you’re looking for, our team would be honored to get to know you.
A Team Built for This Work
Moonwake is not a technology company that dabbles in the social sector, and it’s not a nonprofit consultancy that outsources its technical work. Every member of our team brings direct experience in both technology and the sectors we serve. Our consultants have worked inside community development institutions, government agencies, social service organizations, and nonprofits. They’ve managed loan portfolios, designed grantmaking systems, built compliance frameworks, and led programs that deploy real capital into real communities. They also happen to be skilled technologists: solution architects, engineers, data strategists, and product designers who have built and shipped production systems at scale.
This combination is what allows Moonwake to move faster, produce higher-quality work, and serve as a true strategic partner rather than a vendor that needs months of orientation. When we sit down with your team, we already understand your business model, your funding structures, your stakeholder dynamics, and the regulatory environment you operate in. That means less time explaining and more time solving. Under his leadership, Moonwake Technologies has become a partner of choice for organizations seeking to navigate change with clarity, purpose, and technical confidence.
What Makes Our Team Different
Dual expertise by design. Every team member brings both technology skills and hands-on sector experience. This is not a nice-to-have, it’s a Moonwake hiring requirement.
Fluency across domains. Our team has worked across community development, economic development, affordable housing, social services, government, and philanthropy. We understand the connections between these sectors and the technology that ties them together.
Builder mentality. We are practitioners, not just advisors. Our team has designed, built, and maintained production systems used by hundreds of organizations. We know what it takes to ship and sustain real products.
Capacity builders at heart. We don’t just deliver solutions. We build the knowledge, documentation, and training that ensure your team can own and evolve the technology after we leave.
