Tech Maturity Assessment and Growth Plan
Get a Clear, Prioritized Roadmap in 90 Days
Over the course of 90 days, we work closely with your leadership and front-line teams to build a complete picture of where your technology stands today, align stakeholders on a realistic and compelling future state, and translate that vision into a prioritized roadmap with clear next steps, ownership, and sequencing. The engagement is designed to be practical, not theoretical. Every recommendation is grounded in your operational reality, your budget constraints, and the actual capacity of your team to execute.
Our Approach
Our approach works because it brings structure and momentum to complex technology decisions. By first grounding the work in today’s reality, then defining a clear future state, and finally focusing on implementation, organizations can move forward with confidence, reduce risk, and make steady, measurable progress toward their goals.
What sets this engagement apart is that it’s built for the kinds of organizations we work with: mission-driven institutions, public-sector agencies, and purpose-driven businesses where technology decisions involve multiple stakeholders, constrained budgets, and competing priorities. We don’t deliver generic maturity models. We deliver a roadmap that reflects your specific context and that your team can start acting on immediately.
Phase 1
Baseline Assessment and Documentation
We get to know you and establish “Point A”, where you are today.
Every meaningful technology strategy starts with an honest understanding of the current state. In Phase 1, we embed with your team to document how work actually gets done today, not how it’s supposed to get done on paper.
We conduct stakeholder interviews across leadership, program staff, and operations; we map the systems, tools, and data flows your organization relies on; and we identify the pain points, workarounds, and gaps that are costing you time, money, and capacity. The result is a comprehensive baseline that gives everyone involved a shared understanding of where things stand and a clear foundation for everything that follows.
Key Activities:
- One-on-one and small group interviews with leadership, program, operations, and finance staff
- Complete inventory and diagnostic evaluation of current systems, applications, databases, and third-party tools
- Workflow mapping across core business functions, documenting how data moves and where processes break down
- Jobs-to-be-done analysis identifying what each function needs from technology to be effective
- Documentation of manual workarounds, redundancies, and pain points that represent immediate improvement opportunities
- Assessment of current data quality, accessibility, and reporting capabilities
- Review of existing vendor contracts, licensing, and technology costs
Phase 2
Future State Vision and Roadmap
We align on “Point B”, where you want to go.
Phase 2 is where the engagement shifts from understanding to envisioning. Through a series of facilitated workshops, we bring your stakeholders together to define an aspirational but achievable future state: what your technology ecosystem should look like in 12 to 24 months and how it should support your mission, your operations, and your growth.
We then conduct a rigorous gap analysis between Point A and Point B, translating each gap into a defined project with scoped requirements, estimated level of effort, and expected return on investment. The output is a prioritized roadmap that sequences these projects into a realistic plan your team can execute, with clear decision points for what to build internally, what to co-develop with a partner, and what to outsource.
Key Activities:
- Facilitated future-state workshops with cross-functional stakeholders to build shared vision and alignment
- Collaborative definition of technology goals tied directly to mission outcomes, operational targets, and growth objectives
- Detailed gap analysis documenting the distance between current state and future state across systems, data, workflows, staffing, and governance
- Translation of each gap into a scoped project with defined requirements, dependencies, and estimated effort
- ROI assessment and prioritization scoring for each initiative based on impact, feasibility, cost, and strategic alignment
- Roadmap development with phased sequencing, milestones, ownership assignments, and decision gates
Phase 3
Implementation and Capacity Building
We begin roadmap implementation and teach your team an iterative approach.
A roadmap is only valuable if your team can act on it. In Phase 3, we transition from planning to execution by organizing the roadmap into clear ownership paths and launching implementation of the highest-priority, highest-ROI initiatives.
Just as importantly, we invest heavily in capacity building: training your team on the tools, processes, and iterative management approach they need to continue executing the roadmap long after our engagement ends. We don’t believe in creating dependency. Our goal is to leave your organization with not just a plan and a set of early wins, but the confidence, knowledge, and internal capability to own your technology future.
Key Activities:
- Organization of the roadmap into workstreams with clear ownership, timelines, and accountability
- Hands-on implementation of the highest-priority projects, including vendor selection support, system configuration, or custom build initiation as appropriate
- Staff training on new systems, tools, and processes introduced during the engagement
- Introduction of iterative project management practices your team can use to manage ongoing roadmap execution
- Change management support to drive adoption and address organizational resistance
- Knowledge transfer sessions and documentation so institutional knowledge does not leave with the consultants
- Definition of success metrics and reporting cadences to track progress against the roadmap
What You Get
Deliverables include a prioritized technology roadmap that translates gaps into defined, right-sized projects with clear sequencing, ROI considerations, and guidance on what to implement internally, co-develop, or outsource so you can confidently move toward your future state. Each deliverable is designed to be actionable on its own, so even if priorities shift or funding timelines change, your organization has concrete, usable assets that move you forward.
Baseline Assessment Report
Comprehensive documentation of current workflows, infrastructure, applications, data systems, and critical business processes, including a complete inventory of pain points, workarounds, and improvement opportunities identified during the assessment.
Future-State Vision
Facilitated workshops to co-create an ambitious but achievable and right-sized technology vision for your organization.
Gap Analysis
A detailed breakdown of what's missing to move from A to B organized into projects with detailed requirements.
Growth Plan and Roadmap
A well-defined, actionable list of projects, ranked by level of effort and ROI, each of which incrementally moves you closer to “Point B”, your future state vision
